Whenever a prominent awards ceremony draws close, you'll find a demand to include additional classifications to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and satisfy the passions of enthusiasts who have specialized interests.
Another commentator previously argued supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. The same goes for tabletop games, representing a passionate advocate's mission. However, I must insist when I prioritize just as with other blinkered fanatics, I possess a compelling case supporting my request stands as crucial above others. The demand is this: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.
Organizing Gaming Categories
Classifying creative works is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations avoid this approach. Yet it remains an unavoidable compromise for the industry of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.
To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to be recognized, and to ensure all game types to receive proper recognition, genre categories are essential.
Current Gaming Award Categories
Leading game ceremonies offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Collectively, these award types successfully include numerous genres, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.
This doesn't apply to logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, each quite distinct: the architectural riddles in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, VR/AR Game, or the intensely contested independent game categories.
- A renowned logic title received no recognition completely that year
- Another imaginative release received no nominations in 2019
- Popular arranging title got ignored recently
- Only a few brain-teasers scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Significance of Puzzle Games
Frequently they represent modest productions, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Iconic mobile puzzle games rank among most engaged experiences in the world continuing this trend for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences claiming status as most purchased experience; it’s also in the running for top gaming experience. Puzzle games are foundational within interactive entertainment, and they are in conversation across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Logic titles wouldn't face that issue. One could readily select five nominees with fascinating, diverse, deserving games every year with ease — perhaps, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave numerous deserving experiences.
And to reiterate, these are games that otherwise have no home in important events. Logic title developers function at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to movie stunt professionals, they merit acknowledgment. Don't make them wait 35 years.
